Friendships Can Make Or Break Us - 1328 Words

Friendships can make or break us. Building friendships with people who have different strengths is the crucial investment of our heart. One of the hardest of all life skills could be the ability to love people close to us, live in authentic, reciprocal relationship, and allow them to love us back. Having a friend beside me as I pursued my dreams has made all the difference. Even when I may have been knocked down because of something one friend has said or done, it’s still the strength of another friend that has helped me get back up and press on. I like the idea of having my own â€Å"Dream Team;† not like the original one—the Olympic basketball team with MJ, Magic Johnson, and David Robinson—but a Dream Team of friends. It wouldn’t hurt if one of them could dunk a basketball, but it’s not actually necessary unless you are building a basketball Dream Team. Social media has helped create or perpetuate a false sense of relationships. Friendships are not the same as followers on Twitter. We can’t equate our friendship with likes on Instagram. We settle for substitutes for real relationships but end up lacking the kind of friends who bring their life into ours. A good friend has that unusual ability to encourage you and stand with you and still be able to tell you when you are being ridiculous. â€Å"You know I care about you, right? You know I’m a big supporter of yours, right? So, please don’t wear that shirt tonight.
